128GB of DDR4 Memory!!! Does more RAM = better performance?

128GB of DDR4 Memory!!! Does more RAM = better performance?

When Corsair offered to lend us a kit of their 128 GIGABYTE DDR4 memory, it was hard to turn them down… But is 128GB of DDR4 really necessary?

I know what it’s meant for! Games with stupid memory leaks! You’ll probably finish playing certain games that has memory leak without even realizing that the game has memory leak. And then you’ll read the forums filled up with complaints about memory leaks and you’re gonna be like; "What the heck are you guys talking about? I’m just fine with my 128GB of RAM. o_O". πŸ˜›

Minecraft 200 mods max render with ultra hd shaders… And it still ain’t enough ram…

  16. meditating010 on November 5, 2018 at 7:08 pm

honestly – its not that much, our server boxes have 1 TB of RAM (yes you read it right) on which I work with everyday to crunch numbers (we run big data stuff – mostly work on parquet files crunching percentiles and other aggregations), to compute a 1 tb file for example and be able to do computes you need cluster, however if even if you wanted to test with partial data to extrapolate performance of system you’d need a lot of RAM.

192GB was required for assembling a large arrary of D5000 images into a single Digital Elevation Model of bridge road decks at my job 6 years ago in Michigan. Not sure what they’re running now that they’re on phase 3 of the project with a Red Weapon 8k.

using a RAM disk of 100GB and have 28GB Ram left is for me the best deal! Running your favourite game at lightning speed has definitive advantages, not seeing this tested in this channel, too bad! I expected a lot more….

  33. VENOMVETTE on November 5, 2018 at 7:28 pm

I’m pretty sure I can download 128gb of ram

  34. Robert B Seward Jr on November 5, 2018 at 7:31 pm

Playing games, no. You 1-second skimmed over the VM possibilities, yet that’s exactly what you would use that much RAM for…and it DOESN’T require ECC to do it!!!
@Linus, love your videos, but you missed the mark on this one.
How about a follow-up video of how you CAN use 128 gig of RAM. ugh please?

  35. armand duarte on November 5, 2018 at 7:33 pm

    Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM 6x4GB (24GB) 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 for $110.26 …..ebay?

  48. Gary Sansum on November 5, 2018 at 7:51 pm

128GB of RAM, that is enough to run a completely RAM system, remove the hard drive and other storage devices during operations. Setup a RAMdisk and load everything at bootup. Every time you bootup, you would have fresh computer and would be loaded with only what you want to run at that time. If your hacked, run into a virus, malware or ransomeware, just reboot to take care of it. I for one, can easily see the advantage to this much memory…And if the police raids your house because the think your doing something illegal, when they take the computer. All data would be gone when the computer is unplug, no recovery.

  49. Max on November 5, 2018 at 7:54 pm

Wait lol there was nothing in this video! It was just pictures of 128gb of ram with no performance. Really digging deep for vids these days
