256 Kilobyte of Memory in Minecraft

256 Kilobyte of Memory in Minecraft

Biggest memory in Minecraft without comperators (they are really slow) by now. Mcedit was used to build this.

Pure redstone is not really space-efficient. Chest and hopper based memory would be much denser. There are many ways how you can encode dozens of bits in a hopper and even more with chests. The simplest way (for chests) would be to have each slot represent 0 when it stores a sword and 1 when it stores a minecart, but it can be extended with more item classes. With stackables you could recognize classes with filter hoppers, but you would need to make sure that all slots use different item classes. As an extra you could then use item counts as extra memory.

Then you can put chests on rail loops with cart counters, so you can use one read-write mechanism for multiple chests. Reading would probably be destructive, but you can always rewrite read value back to the system. You should be able to go well into megabytes.

  40. Daniel Kantrowitz on January 9, 2019 at 12:28 pm

1.13 allows the forceloading of chunks. how long will it be until you build a redstone computer out of this and use a computer program to write windows 1.0 to it. by the way, although you will have it in redstone you will require some command blocks or a external download to get a full color screen

  41. JuanRamonSilva on January 9, 2019 at 12:30 pm

Can anyone explain how this works?
