In this video, cleaning expert, Melissa Maker, shows us how to clean stainless steel appliances in a safe and effective way.

Stainless steel appliances are becoming more and more popular and it’s always a challenge to clean them without scratching them, and of course getting rid of annoying streaks and fingerprints. People always think they need to purchase expensive products or tools to do this, but I reveal a secret that the pros use. Enjoy!!!

Danielle asked: What’s the best way to clean stainless steel appliances?

Answer:

What you need-
1) Stainless steel
2) 2 microfibre cloths (1 wet and 1 dry)
3) Dish soap
4) Olive oil/baby oil/vegetable oil
5) Paper towels
6) Warm water

Start by taking a microfiber cloth, wet it with warm water, and add a bit of dish soap. Wring the cloth out well and wipe your stainless steel appliance down, removing any and all grime. Next, take your cloth and rinse it off well with water. Wipe down the appliance again to remove any remaining soapy residue. Using the dry cloth, buff the stainless steel appliance dry, erasing any streaks left behind.

For extra shine and to eliminate tough streaks, put a bit of olive oil on 2 paper towels and wipe the appliance down, going with the grain, not against. Large appliances would take about a quarter size amount whereas small appliances need about a pennies worth. Then take a fresh set of dry paper towels and wipe the appliance again to eliminate any excess oil so there isn’t a greasy, oily residue leftover. You should be left with a clean, glossy stainless steel finish!

Did you know? Stainless steel is made of chromium. It forms a chromium oxide that creates a protect film on the steel which helps to prevent staining and corrosion.

5 Tips to Keep Your Stainless Steel Looking New:
1) DO NOT use anything rough that will scratch the surface
2) DO NOT use chlorine bleach
3) Never clean in circles or against the grain
4) Don’t let dirt sit on the surface for too long
5) Clean the surface then buff it to keep it looking shiny

I use the dollar store version of Pine sol which is called Pine Glo. It cleans and shines! I use it straight, no water, a quarter size for my fridge!

My refrigerator and dishwasher are brushed aluminum. Stainless steel method doesn’t work. What do I do?

  20. TeacherTeacher on February 4, 2019 at 10:08 pm

Just buy a container of Bar Keeper’s Friend. Inexpensive and works great! I use three microfiber cloths. I use the first one to apply powder (wet cloth, then put powder in it and smoosh it around so it doesn’t fall on floor), the second one I completely saturate with water and use to wipe off powder, the last one I use to dry it off. And yes, go with grain. It sounds tedious, but it goes fast once you get your system going with the three cloths.

I loved my stainless Whirlpool, no fingerprints ever. I just moved to a home with "high-end, stainless steel Samsung appliances" and I can tell you now, they’re getting taken out asap. Hardest sob’s to keep clean, my God. And I don’t even have kids! I don’t know what on earth the previous owner used, but I’m too OCD to have to clean these damn things all the time. I’m going back to Whirlpool and they looked beautiful All The Time. Life is too short for this sh*t.

  32. Oleston Pierre USDF on February 4, 2019 at 10:25 pm

How do get water marks off and rust spots?

  46. Kevin H on February 4, 2019 at 10:40 pm

Do not do this… Lol. Get a proper non scratching cleaner. Obviously rubbing any oil on your SS appliances isn’t a good idea and you’re just making more work for yourself. Common sense says stay clear of this one just look at the fridge.

  47. Puppy Love on February 4, 2019 at 10:41 pm
