Startac was also the FIRST digital phone…not analog. For my favorite though…id have to go with the Motorola 8000 AKA "brick phone". Granted you got a half hr of talk time…it was indestructible. In the inner city like Phoenix…it had pretty decent reception. Had an average amount of dropped calls though. It was the most memorable and first phone i had. It was def a signature statement seeing as most couldn’t afford one. they came out in i believe ’84ish. The talk time and call quality improved over the yrs. I got mine in "93 in my last yr of high school. I paid no where near $4k…probably cause i didn’t get one till 9yrs later. Back then…when you bought a phone…you had to pay the full price up front…at the time of purchase. You had to buy atleast 3mos talk time up front but i bought 6. I walked out spending a lil over $1k. Back then…i thought that was the best $1k i had ever spent. My last yr of high school…i couldn’t afford a car but by golly…i had the digital readout pager that told sports scores…and news…and had my very own cell phone. I so thought my shitnit didn’t stink my last yr. I felt like Zack Morris.
