Restorers Try to Get Lunar Module Guidance Computer Up and Running | WSJ

In 1976 in a warehouse in Texas, Jimmie Loocke bought two tons of scrapped NASA equipment. Years later he realized it included a computer from an Apollo lunar module, like the one used to guide the lander to the surface of the moon during Apollo 11. Fifty years after that mission, computer restoration experts in Silicon Valley are trying to get his computer working again.

Wall Street ran out of things to claim Trump didn’t or did do so they jumped on the space race, which Trump started back up.

  2. Big DogCountry on October 20, 2019 at 3:54 pm

The computer that generated the CGI for TV and woulda crashed iffin Armstrong hadn’t turned it off and landed "manually" with "just enough left" HA! Knowing what we know now, I don’t believe anything I am told by the media.

  3. Florence Gomer on October 20, 2019 at 3:55 pm

Not often I look at a WSJ video, this might be the first for a very long time, but this was very well made and narrated, interesting, factual, and gave a useful flavour of the original very long series of videos documenting the restoration which I watched a few months ago. Good job.

  4. ren waldo on October 20, 2019 at 3:55 pm

So they were able to go to the moon with that and we can’t now ? Evolution failed !

  5. Adam Michaels on October 20, 2019 at 3:55 pm

    Is that Scott Manley?

  6. Velasco Alverez on October 20, 2019 at 3:56 pm

You have to be a damned idiot to think we actually landed on the moon it’s not physically possible the radiation is too strong. People just believe what they want they don’t care about facts

  7. Eternal Goof on October 20, 2019 at 3:57 pm

For me there is little understanding for the foolishness of simply throwing away the hardware which brought humans to the moon. Hu???? If mankind has a future (and wasn’t it all about mankind future??) this stuff will have a value of billions in some thousand years, much more than Mona Lisa or other classic stuff of human art. Sorry … NASA fools.

Was waiting for a 1202 alarm

  9. Tattoobob on October 20, 2019 at 4:00 pm

hey I thought all the Apollo 11 stuff was destroyed by the government ?

  10. Pvt Peppers on October 20, 2019 at 4:00 pm

There’s no way 2kb of ram got them to the moon.

  11. James Australian on October 20, 2019 at 4:02 pm

So the computer showed the altitude as constantly descending even when it was sitting on a desk. Proof of the fact the moon landing was a filmed stunt to be used to throw the Soviets off guard ?

  12. workyz1980 on October 20, 2019 at 4:03 pm

Технология постройки двигателя утеряна, вместе с чертежами. Т.е. доказать реальность полета невозможно. Но для поддержания мифа будут показывать какую то груду металла и говорить "ну вот же компьютер для луны". Ложь, ложь, ложь!

  13. Adamah Dirt on October 20, 2019 at 4:03 pm

    Yea..ok.

  14. 412 VW on October 20, 2019 at 4:03 pm

NASA: we HAD the technology but we lost it…..oh there it is…..
If Elon Musk wont lap the moon in 4k stream in the next year or so you can bet the mars landing will be fully faked #capricorn1

  15. larry ferrante on October 20, 2019 at 4:05 pm

WSJ is a well known fake news outlet..never believe anything from them

  16. M D on October 20, 2019 at 4:06 pm

Lend it to India. Ironically, they seem to need a bit of help getting to the moon.

  17. Sam Hausmann on October 20, 2019 at 4:09 pm

Sure, this Tec got us to the Moon…

…If the Moon was a movie stage in Nevada dessert! lol

  18. David Sherbert on October 20, 2019 at 4:10 pm

If Neil Armstrong was the 1st man to step on the Moon, then who got out FIRST to set up the camera on the tripod mount and operate it???????? There was no remote control cameras back in 1969…

  19. Travis Smith on October 20, 2019 at 4:10 pm

I agree that the current and newer generations need to know how earlier tech worked. I put up with a kid that boasted how he finished the auto tech program at a community college but yet didn’t know what a choke was for and how it worked. Too many college kids are too full of themselves because the paid some money for a piece of paper and if they weren’t told something in college, it must not be right. Also dealt with a kid that was about to finish college w/ an engineering degree and did not kbow that water expanded when it froze. Furthermore, since they didn’t tell him that in college, he wouldn’t believe it.

At 5:13 I see Scott Manley! Someone tell me he has a video on this!

  24. zinssmax on October 20, 2019 at 4:14 pm

If you press ‘sort by newest’ in this comment section, you will develop depression from all the stupidity spread by conspiracy theorists.

  25. Med dy on October 20, 2019 at 4:19 pm

So, they have the computer but lost all telemetry data to prove the 1st moonlanding was not a hollywood production?

  26. Paul Batchelor on October 20, 2019 at 4:20 pm

    cobblers

  27. Jeroen Schuuring on October 20, 2019 at 4:22 pm

Wasn’t Victor included in the production of these computers?

  28. Jesus Loves All on October 20, 2019 at 4:22 pm

I feel sad for all people sucked in and involved in this UNLESS their apart of the sham!!

  29. slayne2 on October 20, 2019 at 4:23 pm

    Apple-Oh?

  30. R3D on October 20, 2019 at 4:25 pm

I’d love to have a replica of this. Powered by Rasberry Pii or something similar. Lots of companies make components for flight simulator cockpits and so on, so maybe one of them could try to make a Lunar Module Guidence Computer replica. Just the interface part of course.

  31. Xdogg on October 20, 2019 at 4:26 pm

Didnt one of the NASA guys say somewhere that all that tech got destoyed and wasn’t possible to rebuild

  32. Sonos45 on October 20, 2019 at 4:26 pm

I always believed we went to the moon. Now that I’ve seen wall street journal reference the lunar lander. I"m not so sure anymore. I don’t trust these fuh kers.

  33. M M on October 20, 2019 at 4:26 pm

We got loads of technology from the apollo program, but it came bundled up with a big lie.
Nothing is for free. so just swollow and move on….

  34. Glenn Billings on October 20, 2019 at 4:27 pm

Why wasn’t this computer sent to a museum?

  35. Craigx71 on October 20, 2019 at 4:27 pm

Wow back in the day, real brains on the job, a far cry from the it "gurus" today… learn a software package by heart and think they smart!

  36. David Scott on October 20, 2019 at 4:28 pm

    Simply, amazing!

  37. Graf Falkenstein on October 20, 2019 at 4:29 pm

I don’t belive any of this… because NASA said so.
Landing a space module with an old calculator? Yes, sure…

  38. Eric Cartman on October 20, 2019 at 4:32 pm

  42. David Sherbert on October 20, 2019 at 4:37 pm

So whatever happened to the stripped down M151 Military jeep that served as the Lunar Rover??? Maybe they can get that Hollywood prop working too!!!!!

  43. Mr Smiff on October 20, 2019 at 4:39 pm

Real question is can it play doom ?

  44. Todd Pruett on October 20, 2019 at 4:40 pm

Now loan it to the Smithsonian and they can display, store, and preserve this fossil.

  45. toordog on October 20, 2019 at 4:40 pm

We went to the moon? Lol still no proof of that…

  46. Nicholas Brewer on October 20, 2019 at 4:43 pm

Haha, never worked in the first place. Those astronauts suits would have burst into flames on the moon. Richard Nixon talking on the phone from the oval office to the moon. Haha hilarious. Gus grissom couldn’t even get the radios to work between 2 buildings , oh then he caught on fire and died. Yeah right.

  47. Jun Tatsuoka on October 20, 2019 at 4:44 pm

Why did NASA send the computer to the garbage heap? maybe because the whole Apollo program was a steaming heap of garbage…..

  48. californigirl on October 20, 2019 at 4:47 pm

    That is fascinating.

  49. Zygocact on October 20, 2019 at 4:50 pm

They can re use it and go back to the moon!
