My thing about rewarding grades is that not every kid is the same. For some kids school is super easy and for some kids it’s really hard, and there could be various reasons for that. I believe in rewarding effort and not just the result, because if you never get rewarded for working hard whilst your siblings get all these privileges, that can be very demotivating. If you knew your child worked hard, but they never seemed to be able to get the same grade as the others, would you reconsider that As and Bs rule? For example, if you had a child with severe dyslexia, would you expect them to have the same grade as the others when studying and reading was a challenge? Or would you recognise the effort they made in trying to get those grades, even if they didn’t achieve tops marks in everything?

If you trusted your kids 100%, I don’t think you would feel the need to monitor every DM or message.

I got a phone when I was 11 cuz I would go to my friend house every other almost every weekend so I would be able to contact her if something happened to me or if I needed her but I’m 13 now and I have sports and extra activity’s so I need one because my mom needs to know where I am if I’m in the right place.

If ur kids have a iPhone or iPad, you can make a family sharing account to ur iCloud acc and they have to press ask if they want a game or an in app purchase.

  23. Lauren Brinkman on October 31, 2019 at 6:26 pm

i think it’s wrong that you force them to answer their phone immediately. what if they don’t have signal? that’s not their fault.

I would hate my parents going through my phone 😂 but that’s just how I have been raised every family is different to don’t judge them for looking through their kids phone, if it works for them it works for them. I personally don’t agree with it but hey that’s their opinion. Love you guysssss

I’m so glad you guys are doing this kinda thing with your kids. My friend recently got similar app to control her kids’ phones. You can lock the phone access from the main cellphone, you can turn off data, you can add more screen/data time etc. I feel like kids (and some adults aswell) spend way too much time in the internet nowadays, especially on social media. I’m glad you guys shared your experience with us, maybe there’s parents who will start monitoring their kids screen time after this! What comes on answering the phone when parents call. My mom always told me "always tell me where you’re going". Even before the cellphones. She explained me multiple times that she just wants to know I’m alright and nothing has happened to me. Like, she’s not trying to stalk my every single move, but if she gets too worried, then she knows where to come look for me. Even now when I’m over 30 years old, she keeps calling me every now and then asking if things are alright. Couple years ago I found a location sharing software, which we’ve been using with my mom every single day. You can easily see where each other are etc. I love it.

I’m 13, I got a phone when I was 10. I have my own Apple ID, and my parents don’t check my phone or any electronic for that matter. I’m sorry but this is extreme, you need to have trust in the kids to not do anything bad. I would go crazy if I was your kid.

  45. Brenda Holloway on October 31, 2019 at 6:57 pm

I think that is a great idea

  48. Alexys Starr on October 31, 2019 at 6:58 pm

When I get in trouble or something I delete certain stuff off my phone and power it off my mom doesn’t go through it nor would I let her and I don’t think she really cares because it’s not like I’m doing drugs or getting drunk or anything plus I get the best grades out of all my siblings so she really doesn’t care anymore I do what I want as long as I have good grades

  49. Kaggy on October 31, 2019 at 7:00 pm

I think given the state of the world we live in and the small percentage of people in the world that are not of sound mind or morals or boundaries, you guys are doing the right thing … Well done mom n dad
