Does the iPad make sense as a computer now?

At WWDC 2019, Apple introduced iPadOS, which has all-new ways to interact with this tablet computer. There are new window options, gestures, and a whole new interaction language. In this episode of Processor, Dieter Bohn nerds out on the idea that UI has a grammar and the iPad’s interface might not be as intuitive as it used to be.

I love this type of video! All of Dieter’s content is great, and it is really cool to see his English expertise relate to tech. Keep this stuff coming!

  10. Jonathan Patterson on March 21, 2020 at 2:13 pm

Learning how to use all these different gestures is tiresome … is this what it feels like to get older??

  11. AndroidApps on March 21, 2020 at 2:13 pm

    genius way to explain gestures!

  12. Adam Macias on March 21, 2020 at 2:14 pm

I think people are making this harder than it should because they weren’t self aware enough to know the functionality of the product they’re buying. An iPad was never meant to be a laptop or a desktop.

Love the way you spliced the earlier complaints and the keynote together 😂😂 👌

  15. Stefan Wolfrum on March 21, 2020 at 2:17 pm

All nice, Dieter. But where‘s the answer to the question in the title of the video? Does the iPad Pro with iPadOS make sense as a computer now?

  16. Grant Briggs on March 21, 2020 at 2:21 pm

Agreed… I’m already starting to be overwhelmed with gestures and accidentally doing something…. It’s extremely heightened when trying to teach my parents how to use an iPad… Wasn’t too bad with an early generation iOS device… Now…. Omg… So difficult!!

I am using customizable gestures on the MacBook for years with BetterTouchTool 😉
If you select intuitive gestures, you get used to it unbelievabely fast and improve your work productivity easiely.
Looking forward to even more gestures!

You made some really good points in this video. I loved it. I don’t know if I agree with everything you said, but I understood all of it. I really learned a lot; especially in the grammar part.

  33. Martin Taylor on March 21, 2020 at 2:39 pm

More the fool you for thinking the iPad can replace a computer.

  34. Daniel Urry on March 21, 2020 at 2:39 pm

  35. BRTGZ Noob on March 21, 2020 at 2:41 pm

  36. GINK0SAN on March 21, 2020 at 2:41 pm

    That thumbnail triggers my OCD.

  40. Randen Montalvo on March 21, 2020 at 2:46 pm

I have a nearly 3k MBP and i prefer to use my new iPad Pro for just about everything. The power is just incredible the multiple form factors allow a better fit in my hectic lifestyle. From running a business to editing , drawing and many aspects of productivity; where at a point where the iPad Pro is simply limited by software not anything else. With IOS13 besides coding my MBP was an investment that didnt really pay off. I cannot say that about my iPad Pro which is just a better companion for a busy lifestyle. LTE is also a huge factor along with its power.

  41. Geddy V on March 21, 2020 at 2:47 pm

Great content, the comparison to grammar was perfect.

  42. Guvie Bain on March 21, 2020 at 2:48 pm

Hi just got my ipad pro— I appreciate your head’s up with learning the finger gestures—-Ill take the time to learn them! I can tell Ill be using my ipad pro instead of my lap!

  43. Stephen Scott on March 21, 2020 at 2:49 pm

    2,3,4 fingers. Many uses. 😏✌️

  44. Brandon Tea on March 21, 2020 at 2:49 pm

After… some time using iOS13, on iPhone 6s, the gesture is very intuitive.

  45. Felipe Guaragna Schorn on March 21, 2020 at 2:49 pm

Maybe is intentional, because Apple is writing its own history now since they don’t considerate the tendency of skeuomorphism design anymore and, actually, nowadays they can write, and design, their own visual language. I’m not sure if I should be happy or terrified of thinking about this…

  46. Farnhamification on March 21, 2020 at 2:51 pm

Is ipad os compatible with Logitech’s flow technology?

  47. Oluwasayo Babalola on March 21, 2020 at 2:52 pm

And the grammar analogy!!! My man ✅ ✅ ✅

  48. Ahmad Komirea on March 21, 2020 at 2:52 pm

I am a linguist, but I’m also training to become an app developer. I thought the language part in the video was very interesting. Can you make a specific video to elaborate on this part?

  49. Hunter Tabz on March 21, 2020 at 2:57 pm

    No one:
    Really no one:
Me: Why does no one cares about tvOS?!

  50. hanque1 on March 21, 2020 at 3:02 pm

Love your reviews/analysis. Definitely more of a learning curve. You are spot on. Reminds me of first learning how to use a Palm Pilot.
